Turn 36: The Thrappled Lemmings and the Ungrateful Dead (Five Leagues from the Borderlands)

Following their success against the Hooded Men, Geir the Smith gave the Thrappled Lemmings a Fine Shortsword. The locals also charged the Lemmings less for their food than usual (1 Mark). With little else to do and a lot of gold in their purses, Sir Thiebault drilled Fulrad while the others prepared for their expedition against the undead on the edge of town (+1 XP each). The party also made 2 Marks selling excess gear and bought a Fine Shield for Wido as well as more Bandages and Tonic (-12 Marks total). As they were about to set off, Griselda the Baker's Daughter turned up and gave each of them one of her famous Apple Cream Pies (+1 Adventure Point).

Half an hour later, the Thrappled Lemmings were sneaking up on the centre of the zombie infestation. They could see seven normal zombies and two much fresher and stronger zombies. No doubt there were more around, but these would do to start with.

The Thrappled Lemmings began their approach towards the zombies. Wido, Fulrad and Sir Thiebault advanced towards a low hill overlooking the stone circle. Onesipe took up position at the corner of a building where he had a decent line of sight for sniping. Lysanthir and Drogo headed off towards a wooded copse on the left flank. They could vaguely see movement in there and did not want their party to be flanked by the zombies. They were almost all in position before the zombies spotted Sir Thiebault on the low hill. Onesipe opened the battle by wounding a zombie. Then the zombies lurched into action, shambling towards the Thrappled Lemmings.

Wido rushed forward and finished off the wounded zombie. Sir Thiebault charged down the hill and sliced the head off another zombie. As he did so, a new zombie lurched into view on the Lemmings' left flank. Drogo and Sir Thiebault slew two more zombies, but yet another zombie appeared, this time from their right flank.

Onesipe's sniping was proving ineffectual, but Wido managed to put an arrow right through the brain of one of the leader zombies. At the same time, Drogo cleaved a zombie in two and then cleaved a zombie lieutenant in two a moment later.

Sir Thiebault charged the last zombie but was puffing too hard to do any damage. Wido trotted up beside him.

"You need to lay off Griselda's buns," he commented as he slew the zombie. All was quiet. The zombie menace had been dealt with.

The search of the camp turned up a magical Talisman that Sir Thiebault immediately took charge of and a good quantity of gold plus some jars of valuable spices that they could sell. There was also a satchel of letters detailing the plans of a local warlord to strengthen his grip on the area. That would be worth a few marks to the right person.

They headed home to report to Sigrid the Beggar, who gave them a large purse of gold and information that could help them in the future.
